Here is my hook...
Beck, The Black Crowes, Justice, STS9 (Sound Tribe Sector 9), Michael Franti & Spearhead, The National, Spoon, TV on The Radio, Atmosphere, Cat Power, Hot Chip, Tegan and Sara, The New Pornographers, X, Vampire Weekend, The Hives, Cold War Kids, Ghostland Observatory, Spiritualized, Antibalas, Man Man, The Mother Hips, Tokyo Police Club, DeVotchKa, The Night Marchers, Nortec Collective presents Bostich + Fussible, Does it Offend You, Yeah?, Del The Funky Homosapien, Eagles of Death Metal, Foals, The Muslims, Dengue Fever, MGMT, Sea Wolf, West Indian Girl and Chester French.
Yes it is a list. I know its not the conventional hook but what if all these bands listed were to play a music festival on sept 19th and 20th in San Diego. I am bubbling with excitement over that lineup. I can count 23 bands that I have come to love over the past couple years yet have not yet seen live. I will however get that chance when I attend the concert on the 19th and 20th somewhere near Petco park.
Ill be somewhere in the middle of this while at the same time ill be in a different place altogether

randoms thoughts of the week:
Adam Carolla is my comedic idol. (Audio NSFW)
Skeletal Lamping (upon first listen) makes no sense and complete sense at the same time.

I watched Speed Racer again and still believe it is the second best action film of the year. Second to TDK.
Ill get around to putting up several of my 10 minute mix tapes sometime never...

Forgotten Bands (by Me!): The Scarves (of Sandy Hook, CT)

Katharina is a cool name. I put "Katharina" on a mix cd a long while ago; probably two or three years. listening to this song again reminds me of how much i liked the song. i still do of course, but i totally forgot just how powerful the opening chords are. Where did this band go? Maybe they are still in Sandy Hook, a place i wouldn't mind visiting.
Go have a listen: http://www.myspace.com/thescarvesrock
The rest of their three songs are just as powerful and awesome. Listen to them, too.

Vampire Fortnight?

There is no denying Vampire Weekend's originality and success(although some argue that the African influence was an idea first patented in Graceland by Paul Simon). And because they grew to such enormous popularity some bands who sound eerily similar are bound to pop up. Well Vampire Weekend's debut cd was a worldwide hit and across the pond a band called Little Comets has taken Vampire Weekend's sound and made an outstanding CD of their own. Now of course Little Comets did not just copy Vampire Weekend. Little Comets take the sound and mix in a bit of the British punk rock sound. Overall I recommend Little Comets to anyone who enjoyed Vampire Weekends debut, which seems to be pretty much everyone.
Anywho check out their myspace and here is a song to taste.

ohhh and btw. Who wants to go to SD street scene and catch the VW?

Exodus, or: HEALTH at The Smell//Monday, July 28th, 2008
First of all, let me preface by saying this: i legitimately thought i was going to die at least twice during HEALTH's performance on Monday. I have never been to a more intense, more outrageously loud, more unbearably hot show in my entire life. I was certain i was going to pass out and fall to the floor, where i would be trampled by the blind masses as HEALTH dealt the rest of the living their undeniably unique "blend" of loud, scratchy, eardrum-shattering, pissing-in-your-mouth, ambient death blasts. It sounds like a cat wrapped in saran wrap stuck in a blender, in the best possible way.
Before HEALTH even came on i was frightened near half to death by Mid Wife, easily the scariest anything to come out of Washington or h*ll or wherever they came from. At the time i hated them because between each "song" they had an ear-splitting feedback squeal coming from a horrible little grey box that made my world horrible for each eternal second they kept it on. However, after they were done, i realized they were quite alright. The best part about them was their James Chance-style saxophone playing (used for two underwhelmingly short songs).
Foot Village played before Mid Wife and were easily the night's most intriguingly stunning act. Four drummers screaming and chanting into megaphones is always a good thing. And they were incredibly drummers. Truly talented.
i would mention the first guy who played, but i couldn't explain to you anything further than his use of popular songs and transforming them into the loudest blasts of pure noise you've ever heard. My heart had a hard time keeping it's rhythm and i'm not just saying that.
Anyways, HEALTH was amazing and i realized i am too weak and scrawny to be in the same pit as people twice my weight or at least body fat percentage. I was scared and rightfully so. I loved HEALTH, but when one kid told them to keep playing, i had to ask him to stop saying anything, because i couldn't handle one more song. I was exhausted.
After the show the bassist//whatever sold me a shirt and a cd for only 20 bucks! SICK!
